Former World Junior Team Canada captain Patrice Cormier will be facing criminal charges along with the suspension from the QMJHL for the hit he threw back in January.
Cormier, who plays for Rouyn-Noranda Huskies of the Q, will appear in court July 12. If convicted, he could be sentenced to 18 months in jail. The charge will be for assault causing injury.
Mike Tam, of the Quebec Remparts was the victim of the elbow to the jaw thrown by Cormier. Tam was left convulsing on the ice. He was hospitalized over night and did make a return to the Remparts later in the season.
